Getting Your Bouncy Castles out of Hibernation

08/02/2011

As the daylight hours begin to lengthen, we bouncy castle hirers are starting to bring more and more of our bouncy castles and inflatables out from their cosy winter hibernation in preparation for the forthcoming season.  If we haven’t already done so, it is at this time that we need to start assessing the wear and tear that our bouncy castles and inflatables received last year; whether they will need repairing or replacing, and whether they will need re-testing and what we plan to do if they fail?

Things to look for when checking over your bouncy castles include rips and tears to the PVC on the walls and bed, not forgetting to check the underside of the bed and the outside of the walls, as well as the inside of the bouncy castle.  Also check that the webbing and stitching is still sound and that none of the stitching is pulling apart or has come undone.

It’s also worthwhile checking for damp and mould – the giveaway signs are a) the smell and b) grey patches that won’t wash off the outside of the bouncy castle!  The best thing to do in this instance is to take advantage of any bright sunny days and get your bouncy castles outside in the fresh air, give them a wipe down with a non-bio, non-abrasive cleaner and let them dry thoroughly before putting them away again.

A handy tip is to store your bouncy castles on plastic pallets.  This enables air to circulate underneath the bouncy castles and to continue the drying process.  It’s also an extra bonus if your storage facility gets flooded, as your bouncy castles and inflatables are already raised up off the floor (this obviously only works if it’s there’s only couple of inches of water though!)

Air Inflatables Ltd have a repair and re-testing facility, via our sister company Inflatable World Leisure in Bingham, Nottinghamshire, so if any of your bouncy castles or inflatables require an ‘MOT’ then it’s a good idea to get them booked-in for before the season starts with a vengeance.

Alternatively, if any of your bouncy castles are beyond repair and you are looking to replace them and/or expand your fleet, then Air Inflatables Ltd, who are synonymous with the design and production of quality bouncy castles and inflatables, have a large amount of stock that is ready and available to buy off-the-shelf.

Remember that no-one really wants to hire a dirty, smelly or damaged bouncy castle, and although you may get away with it once, you probably won’t get any repeat bookings from that same customer!
